Description
Soldanella montana is a delicate alpine evergreen perennial that rewards patience with a soft, dense mat of rounded, leathery leaves once established. In early spring, delicate fringed violet-blue flowers rise on slender stems above the foliage. Protect from slugs while the plant establishes but rarely need care afterwards. Thriving in cool, moist, humus-rich soil with dappled shade, this quietly enchanting species brings a touch of mountain serenity to woodland edges and shaded rockeries. Mix with Adiantum verustum which grows amongst the round Soldenella leaves to produce an interesting groundcover.
