Description
Jeffersonia diphylla, commonly known as Twinleaf, is a rare native woodland perennial prized for its twin-lobed leaves which emerge pinkish before maturing to their characteristic blue-green. Delicate cup-shaped flowers about 1 inch across, featuring eight pure white petals and a central cluster of bright yellow stamens follow.
Native to the rich, damp deciduous forests of eastern North America, it is often found on shaded slopes over limestone-derived soil. Ideal for shaded borders and naturalistic garden plantings, it thrives in rich, well-drained soil with even moisture. While it prefers moist, neutral-to-alkaline soils, in cultivation it is surprisingly adaptable and can tolerate drier shade once established.
These seeds degrade quickly in moist-storage so must be planted upon receipt. Jeffersonia is also very shy in seed production, so what seed is available is only available for a very short period.
