Description
Aquilegia viridiflora is a charming and unusual columbine species native to parts of Siberia and northern China, prized for its subtle beauty and compact growth. Unlike its more flamboyant relatives, this herbaceous perennial features delicate, nodding flowers in muted shades of greenish-yellow to dusky purple, blooming in late spring. Its finely divided, soft green foliage forms tidy mounds typically 12–18 inches tall, making it ideal for small garden spaces or alpine settings. The slender stems rise just above the foliage, showcasing the understated spurred blossoms with quiet elegance. Preferring well-drained soil and partial shade, Aquilegia viridiflora thrives in rock gardens, shaded borders, and woodland edges. Though not long-lived, it self-seeds gently, adding a touch of wild charm without overwhelming its surroundings.
