Description
Primula japonica ‘Miller’s Crimson’ is a striking candelabra-style primrose that brings bold vertical rhythm to damp, shaded gardens. Native to Japan, it emerges in spring with a rosette of crinkled green leaves, from which sturdy stems rise and build their floral architecture in stages. The plant produces a whorl of deep crimson flowers with darker eyes, then grows upward an inch or two before forming the next tier—repeating this process until it reaches up to five layers in full bloom. Each tier is evenly spaced, giving the plant a pagoda-like silhouette that stands out in woodland settings or along streambanks. Thriving in humus-rich, consistently moist soil and partial shade, ‘Miller’s Crimson’ is both dramatic and dependable, self-sowing modestly in ideal conditions and returning year after year with its vivid, sculptural display.
