Description
Polemonium pauciflorum, known as fewflower Jacob’s ladder, is a delicate and distinctive perennial native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Unlike its more common relatives, this species features finely divided, fern-like foliage and unusually large, trumpet-shaped flowers in soft shades of yellow with pink highlights. Blooming from May to September but peaking in late spring and early summer, each flower hovers above the foliage on slender stems, attracting bees and hummingbirds with their nectar-rich charm. Despite its alpine origins, P. pauciflorum is surprisingly adaptable, thriving in well-drained, humus-rich soils with regular moisture and partial shade. Its compact size and modest self-sowing habit make it a graceful addition to woodland gardens, rockeries, or tucked into shaded corners where its ephemeral beauty can be appreciated up close.
