Description
A refined and resilient groundcover for shade, Pachyphragma macrophylla offers a display of small white flowers, held above broad, scalloped evergreen leaves. Blooming for six weeks from mid-March, it pairs well with early ephemerals and adds brightness beneath trees and shrubs. Native to the Caucasus, it grows 12 to 18 inches tall and spreads slowly to form dense, weed-suppressing clumps. Best suited to humus-rich, moist soil in partial to full shade, it tolerates dry spells once established. Propagate by seed with winter chilling. Quietly dependable, it brings structure and subtle charm to woodland borders and shaded beds.
