Description
Primula × kewensis is a charming and somewhat elusive hybrid that brings a splash of brilliance to the spring garden. Its flowers are a vivid, saturated yellow—almost glowing against the muted tones of its foliage. The leaves are a soft grey-green, generously coated in a powdery layer known as farina, which gives them a silvery, frosted appearance and adds to the plant’s ethereal quality. Unlike many primulas, kewensis is fussy about moisture: it thrives in well-drained soil and resents winter wet, which can lead to rot. In spring, it puts on its most impressive show, often blooming in a cheerful burst before settling into a more sporadic rhythm through the summer months. Though not the most vigorous or long-lived primula, its delicate beauty and unusual coloring make it a prized specimen for collectors and alpine enthusiasts alike.
