Description
Trollius chinensis ‘Golden Queen’ is a moisture-loving perennial native to China and parts of Russia, prized for its vivid, bowl-shaped golden-orange flowers that resemble glowing buttercups with petaloid stamens that look like tufts of hair sticking out. Blooming from late spring into midsummer, each flower sits atop tall, upright stems above a dense clump of deeply divided, toothed green foliage. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers humus-rich, consistently moist soil—making it ideal for borders, bog gardens, or planting near streams and ponds. It is tolerant of boggy conditions and dislikes dry soil and hot summers. It benefits from a haircut around the angles to encourage fresh growth. Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, ‘Golden Queen’ is low-maintenance, deer-resistant, and attracts butterflies.
