Description
| Symphyandra wanneri is a short-lived perennial or biennial native to the rocky, mountainous woodlands of the Balkans and Southeastern Europe. In early spring, a neat basal rosette of softly hairy, toothed, lance-shaped leaves emerge, forming an attractive, low-growing green mound. Rising gracefully above this tidy foliage on gently branching stems, striking, tubular violet-blue flowers bloom profusely in late spring through summer, their nodding, bell-like forms creating a delicate, romantic display. Although it will tolerate average garden conditions, it is best suited to sharply drained, moderately fertile soils in partial shade to full sun. Symphyandra wanneri thrives in rockeries, woodland edges, and mixed borders where its charming structure can be fully appreciated. While its individual lifespan is inherently brief, it possesses a wonderfully reliable habit, self-seeding freely and wandering organically through garden beds to create an effortlessly relaxed, cottage garden feeling. |
