| Milium effusum ‘Aureum’, commonly known as Bowles’ Golden Grass, is a clump-forming ornamental grass cherished as an absolute treasure for the shade garden. It produces airy, delicate panicles of golden-green seedheads in late spring to early summer. The true highlight of this plant is its gracefully arching, ribbon-like leaf structure, which emerges a brilliant chartreuse to golden-yellow and acts as a luminous beacon in low-light spaces. Preferring moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade, it adapts beautifully to woodland gardens, damp borders, and under plantings beneath canopy trees. As a short-lived, semi-evergreen perennial that politely self-seeds (very lightly in full shade), it reliably adds a bright, elegant splash of continuous color to the darker corners of the landscape year after year. |
