Description
Lilium regale is a stately trumpet lily native to western China, revered for its fragrance, resilience, and classic elegance. In midsummer, medium-sized stems rise from a basal rosette of narrow leaves, bearing large, outward-facing white trumpets flushed with rose on the reverse and brushed in golden yellow at the throat. The blooms release a rich, sweet perfume that intensifies at dusk, drawing pollinators and admiration alike. Thriving in full sun to light shade and well-drained soil, L. regale is remarkably easy to grow from seed, with seedlings typically reaching flowering size within three years. Its combination of vigor, scent, and architectural grace makes it a cornerstone of mixed borders and cottage-style plantings.
