| Crambe cordifolia is a statuesque herbaceous perennial native to the Caucasus, celebrated for its architectural presence and dramatic summer display. In late spring, a basal rosette of large, crinkled, heart-shaped leaves unfurl — bright green and deeply veined, with a bold texture that anchors the garden even before flowering begins. By early summer, towering stems rise to six feet or more, bearing immense, cloud-like panicles of tiny, slightly fragrant white flowers that shimmer in the breeze and attract pollinators. Thriving in well-drained, deep, fertile soil with full sun to light shade, C. cordifolia is best placed where its scale and grandeur can be fully appreciated—at the back of borders, in open woodland edges, or as a solitary specimen in a generous bed.
