Description
Camassia leichtlinii ‘Alba’ is a stately bulbous perennial native to western North America, admired for its tall spires of creamy-white, star-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring. Each flower features six elegant tepals with subtle greenish centers and contrasting purple stamens, opening sequentially from the base upward for a prolonged display. Rising 3 to 4 feet tall on sturdy stems, the floral spikes emerge from clumps of narrow, strap-like foliage that provide a lush backdrop before fading. Notably, this plant is summer dormant—its foliage dies back shortly after flowering, making it ideal for interplanting with later-season perennials that can fill the gap. ‘Alba’ thrives in moist, fertile, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, tolerating clay and seasonal wetness with ease. Deer- and rodent-resistant, it’s a graceful and dependable choice for naturalistic plantings, damp borders, and meadow-style gardens.
