Description
Astrantia major ‘Gill Richardson’ is a striking, clump-forming perennial known for its exceptionally dark, crimson-red pincushion blooms. It produces intricately detailed, starry flowers surrounded by papery, cherry-red bracts in early to mid-summer. The lush, dark green foliage is deeply lobed, forming an attractive basal mound that persists throughout the season. Preferring rich, moisture-retentive soil in partial shade to full sun, it adapts beautifully to woodland edges, damp borders, and cottage gardens. Because this is a named cultivar, seed-grown plants show some natural variation. In our experience the color stays reliably true, but expect differences in height among seedlings.
